Robert M. Gourdin papers, 1866-1876.

Papers consist of correspondence, accounts, a labor agreement (1866) between Robert M. Gourdin and "the freed men and women on his plantation," receipts for taxes and cotton, and other items. Correspondence concerns title questions, taxes, rentals, land transactions, including the sales of timber lands, timber sales, cotton sales and shipping, family matters, debts owed to Robert M. Gourdin, freedmen plantation workers and tenants, and other matters. Included are accounts with the Charleston (S.C.) factorage firm of George H. Ingraham & Son. Correspondents of Robert M. Gourdin include his brother Theodore L. Gourdin, his nephew Peter Gaillard Gourdin, his overseer B.L. Guerry at Georgetown and Lenud's Ferry, S.C., Henry Edward Young, and others.
